Ongoing Work on WebFaces Technology

The following are the current activities on webfaces technology:

  • Develop a framework for alternatively describing the elements using purely XML structures. The charge will be to describe each element as a node of Webface tree. The properties of the elements are be described as attributes of the nodes. The advantage would be that webface elements would not necessarily need to be defined in script files only. However, the scripted form of describing webface elements would always be supported since it provides an advantage for use in process that already requires scripts. This is expected to be completed fourth quarter 2003.
  • Support for additional and multiple events for elements (the priority will be according to requests from developers using Webface technology).
  • A framework for describing custom elements is being developed. This is expected to be completed by fourth quarter 2003.
  • Implementation of formal procedures for completing additional server-side validation is being added. Currently, server-side validation can be added using custom insertations in the scripting language. This development is also expected to be completed fourth 2003.
  • Licensing of webfaces technology to developers of web development kits including GUI development environments has been approved. For instance, traditional front-end dialog box development environments might use Webfaces to create a conversion or export version of programs and dialog boxes into web applications. Owners of development or compiler environments may contact NetVIOS.
  • A framework for describing a custom rendering of the elements is being designed. An estimate of the release time for this activity can not yet be determined.
