If you have problems logging on to our conference, call our support number at (631) 484 0779 after trying to solve the problem using the troubleshooting assistance on this page.

CONNECTIVITY TROUBLESHOOTING

If you are having problems joining or hosting a web conference, please follow the instructions below:

1) Make sure your browser is Internet Explorer.
Click here to download the latest Internet Explorer browser

2) If you are using Internet Explorer...
....your browser configuration may need to be adjusted to its default settings.  To do this...

  • Open your browser. From the program menu, select Tools then Internet Options. Click on the Security tab. In the Internet Zone section, click on the Default Level button.

  • Click on the Advanced tab.  Click on the Restore Defaults button.

  • Click on the General tab. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click on the Settings... button. Select Every visit to page. Click on the OK button, then click on Apply, then click on OK.

  • Close every browser window and after a few seconds open your browser and try to join/host a conference again.

3) Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Server, Windows XP Professional, Windows NT
If you have any of the operating systems above and steps #1 and #2 did not fix your connection problem, your computer user name may be "restricted" and not allow you to install the browser plug-in required to join/host conferences.  Only "Administrative Users", "Power Users" and "Standard Users" can install the browser plug-in. "Restricted Users" can't install any software or modify any computer settings.  Preferably, login as the "Administrator" of your computer and try to join/host a conference.  After the first successful conference, you can go back to using any user login other than "Administrator".

4) There are 2 flavors of JAVA: Sun's Java and Microsoft Java.
Java is a program necessary to join/host conferences.  Find out which one you have: on your browser's program menu, select Tools then Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab.  Scroll down until you see Microsoft VM or Java (Sun):

  • If you have Java (Sun), we recommend that you upgrade it to the latest version which is 1.4  Click here to download the latest java version  <== Only do this if you have SUN JAVA.  Do not do this if you are using Microsoft Java.

  • If after upgrading your Java (Sun) to the latest version you continue to have problems, we recommend that you disable it.  It might be in conflict with your Microsoft's Java.

5) PROXY SERVERS REQUIRING AUTHENTICATION (This information is for Network Administrators/Engineers)WebConference.com is proxy server friendly and it works great with 98% of all Proxy Server configurations.  However, there are a few configurations that could cause joining/hosting conferences difficult.  For example, if your proxy server requires authentication on every single http request, our software can not carry that authentication forward thus requiring the user to enter the proper authentication to connect to the conference.  If the proxy server is setup not to prompt the user for an authentication method, the connection will fail.  Since Proxy Server configurations could be very complicated, we recommend that you contact us for additional information.

If the steps above do not solve your problem, please contact us immediately by calling 800-695-3355 Monday-Friday 7am-7pm Pacific Standard Time

SPEED OF CONFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING

1) HOW CAN I MAKE MY CONFERENCE FASTER?

4 Factors determine the speed of your meeting in order of importance: (THIS IS FOR CONFERENCING HOSTS ONLY)

  • Colors (16-bit recommended)<== VERY IMPORTANT!!!

  • Screen Area Resolution (800x600 recommended)

  • Your Desktop Background picture (No picture is recommended while you host a conference)

  • Bandwidth (The fastest internet connection, the faster your meeting)

You can change the Desktop Background, Screen Resolution and Colors by right-clicking on your desktop, then selecting "Properties":

Select the "Background" tab to change your Background picture to none. Then select the "Settings" tab and change the colors to "True Color (16 bit)" or it might also say "High Color (16 bit)" or "Medium (16 bit).  In other words, select the one that has "16 bit" as part of its description.  It is also recommended that you change your screen area to 800x600.
