Sept. 2002. This is to announce the release of the NetVIOS Editbox. We started this project several months ago to provide the NetVIOS website platform with a user-friendly WYSIWYG environment for users to enter data. It would also provide NetVIOS application developers an alternative tool for many functions including developing content management systems, email applications etc.
The design inculcates NetVIOS's central design principles of scalability, light-weight, flexibility, and ease-of-use. Consequently, the editbox object is arranged into sensible toolbars. The icon design allows the end user to collapse or expand toolbars which we believe is the most scalable configuration for adding future toolbars. In addition, the editbox object can be used in many forms with different combinations of tool bars, can preload content, can load a file (for content management) and supports ISO 639 language codes for international websites. Internal hooks for client-side validation and easy referencing also reflects its consideration as a programmer's tool. Accessing other NetVIOS functions such as the File Manager still enforces user access roles and rights making this a part of the complete website platform environment that guides NetVIOS development. Finally, the color, size and attributes of the object can also be controlled by the programmer.
Many thanks to source developers Eric Hammerman and Rampath Sanjay for contributing this module to the NetVIOS.
